Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead Mechanical Engineer to drive multi-disciplinary design on complex projects, including piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and radioactive material handling systems. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with opportunities for technical leadership, complex calculations, and interface with customers.

The position requires a strong ABET-accredited engineering background, 10+ years in mechanical engineering, and the ability to obtain a US government security

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship does not qualify.
• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• BSME or MSME from ABET-accredited program with focus on thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, ideally in a nuclear environment.
• Experience in piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and radioactive material handling systems.
• Knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME AG-1.
• Experience with FEA or advanced engineering software (e.g., ANSYS, etc.).
• Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, MicroStation, AutoCAD).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts on a multi-disciplin ed project design team.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Develop design inputs for drawings such as P&IDs and layouts.
• Prepare and review equipment specifications and vendor communications.
• Create and review reports and studies.
• Plan budgets, schedules, and project work plans; monitor progress.
• Interface with customers in project meetings.
• Mentor junior engineers.
