Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support commercial nuclear power plant modification projects from a primarily remote setting with periodic site visits. The role involves engineering evaluations, design changes, and calculations to enhance safety, reliability and performance of mechanical systems.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of nuclear-related experience, a PE license or extensive licensed-equivalent background, and strong proficiency in AutoPIPE/CAESAR II, ANSYS

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of engineering experience with a PE license, or 15+ years without PE.
• Demonstrated nuclear industry experience (commercial nuclear, DOE, research reactors, naval programs).
• Experience supporting plant modifications in regulated environments.
• Proficient in engineering evaluations and calculations for mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review engineering evaluations, calculations, and analyses for plant safety and performance.
• Prepare and implement design changes and engineering change packages for nuclear plant modifications.
• Perform mechanical design/analysis for plant systems and equipment in a regulated environment.
• Support modernization projects and plant reliability improvements.
• Perform root cause evaluations and recommend solutions for mechanical issues.
• Execute pipe stress analysis with AutoPIPE and CAESAR II; high-temperature piping as applicable.
• Conduct FEA with ANSYS Mechanical and pressure vessel analysis per ASME/API codes.
• Perform CFD/thermal-hydraulic analyses with ANSYS Fluent.
• Interface with utility clients to present technical solutions and support execution.
• Travel to facilities and offices 25% of the time.
