Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the IFPC Inc 2 program. Lead mechanical subsystem design, develop hardware with Creo CAD and Windchill PLM, and coordinate with production to transition designs into hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 10 years of experience.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or IPTs on complex mechanical subsystems.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver engineering activities and manage risks.
• Proficiency with CAD tools: Creo, CATIA, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
• Experience in PLM environments and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Strong technical drawing and configuration management knowledge.
• Experience leading investigations and technical reviews; client-facing abilities.
• Understanding of cost, schedule, and risk impacts; proficient in MS Office.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to engineering activities for the IFPC IPT, including execution, deliverables, and issues.
• Develop and maintain plans, manage risks, and coordinate deliverables to meet objectives.
• Ensure complete definition of mechanical assemblies within the Technical Data Package (TDP).
• Lead technical peer reviews and drive resolution of complex issues.
• Interface with the design agent and Industry IPT to align engineering decisions.
• Incorporate design changes to enhance manufacturability, quality, and efficiency.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to resolve bottlenecks.
