Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a lead Mechanical/Mining Project Engineer to oversee multidisciplinary projects at a mining operation. You will design systems, optimize performance, perform failure analysis, and drive reliability-centered maintenance improvements.

The role requires a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or related field with 5 years of mine or industrial experience, or a Master’s with 3 years. Advanced degree or PE is preferred; strong communication and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline plus five years of relevant mine or industrial engineering experience, or a master's degree plus three years of such experience.
• Candidates also need hands-on experience in at least two specified mechanical engineering areas, broad engineering knowledge, strong communication and safety skills, and the ability to build trust and credibility; an advanced degree or PE certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects at a mining operation, including system design and optimization, failure analysis, and reliability-centered maintenance improvements.
• Prepare engineering and capital project documentation, manage contracts and project budgets, provide technical oversight and employee direction, and apply engineering software to support project delivery.
