PMC is the Project Management and Construction group within Duke Energy, responsible for building new power generation assets. PMC Engineering provides leadership and oversight of contract engineering resources during all phases of Duke Energy's major projects (development, design, execution, commissioning, and closeout). As part of Duke Energy's broader strategy to meet rising customer demand and decarbonize the grid, PMC is actively planning and building solar, bulk energy storage (batteries), simple cycle and combined cycle generating facilities. Additionally, PMC is developing projects for advanced nuclear, hydro pumped storage, carbon capture, LNG storage, and potentially offshore wind.

The Senior Engineer is at the mid-career level within the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and work independently, with guidance limited to complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in concepts and procedures, able to identify problems, develop solutions, and take corrective actions. They also serve as an advisor, providing guidance to other engineers and project managers. This Senior Mechanical Engineering position reports to the Manager, PMC New Generation Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of major project scope and EPC bid packages.
  • Assist in cost estimation, scheduling, risk analysis, bid evaluation, and contract development.
  • Provide engineering oversight to ensure compliance with project contracts and design criteria.
  • Offer technical expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems.
  • Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, RFIs, commissioning, performance testing, and warranty support.
  • Conduct engineering studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and sketches, conducting analysis and recommending process improvements.
  • Contribute to business goals through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work activities.
  • Develop positive internal and external relationships, demonstrating effective communication and maintaining records.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Mentor other engineering and non-degreed professionals.
  • Represent the company professionally.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or a state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). A master's degree in engineering can substitute for the B.S. degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with PE registration.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of power plant processes and equipment.
  • 6+ years of power plant experience, with emphasis on operations and project execution.
  • Knowledge of project management principles in the utility industry.
  • Experience with combined cycle power plant design and operation.
  • Thermal performance analysis experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME PTC 22 and plant performance testing.
  • Experience with system modeling software (e.g., Themoflex, Fathom, Arrow).
  • Professional Engineering certification.

Working Conditions:

  • This position supports projects in the Midwest Region, preferably based in Plainfield, Indiana, or other Midwest facilities.
  • Hybrid work environment, combining remote and onsite work after onboarding.
  • Work involves construction sites and office environments.
  • Occasional strenuous physical activity and work at heights.
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
  • Travel requirement of 25-50%.
