Job summary

Henneman Engineering in Champaign, Illinois is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the ITG division. The role blends process and mechanical design with plumbing systems, client coordination, and project ownership within an MEP environment.

Expect site work, close collaboration with architects, structures, controls, and field engineering on local projects. The candidate will manage design from surveys through construction documents, with travel primarily local and minimal overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (4-year program).
• 5-10+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role within an MEP design and consulting firm.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients and internal teams.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally/regionally.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical engineering work across project development, including client coordination and site visits.
• Create pre-design and final design documents, including PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, sections, and details.
• Conceptualize process, mechanical, and plumbing designs while meeting code requirements.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, and controls disciplines for complex problems.
• Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and estimates.
• Develop solutions, BOMs, and project schedules; apply applicable codes.
• Support bidding, RFI responses, bulletins, and change orders.
• Provide field engineering and on-site observations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
