Job summary

CyberCoders in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical building systems for commercial projects. You will drive HVAC system design from concept through construction administration, perform energy analyses, and coordinate BIM workflows with architects and engineers while mentoring junior staff and managing client expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters preferred.
• PE license preferred; EIT or equivalent for early-career hires considered with significant project experience.
• Minimum 7-10 years of mechanical design experience with leadership on medium to large commercial or institutional projects.
• HVAC and plumbing system design, load calculations, equipment selection, and energy analysis.
• Experience with Trace 700 for HVAC simulation and energy modeling.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination processes.
• Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (ASHRAE, ICC, NFPA).
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
• Experience with construction administration, field coordination, and resolving contractor issues.
• Ability to mentor junior staff, manage project priorities, and deliver high-quality work on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical system design for HVAC across project phases from concept through construction administration.
• Develop detailed calculations, load analyses, equipment selection, and system layouts using Trace 700 and other modeling tools.
• Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications, and schedules using AutoCAD and Revit; maintain BIM model integrity.
• Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical engineers to resolve clashes and integrate systems in BIM workflow.
• Perform energy analyses and recommend sustainable, cost-effective solutions meeting ASHRAE, local codes, and client requirements.
• Provide construction administration support including RFIs, submittals, and site visits.
• Mentor junior staff and lead design reviews and quality control checks.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; communicate progress to project managers and clients.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and contribute to proposals and technical scopes of work.
