Job summary

Wendel is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and deliver complex building systems from our Buffalo or Rochester, NY office. This senior role includes engineering leadership, project management responsibilities, and engineer-of-record duties across the Western New York region.

You will mentor mechanical staff, coordinate with architecture, electrical, and structural teams, and ensure quality, code compliance, and client satisfaction while helping grow Wendel's mechanical practice.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience across HVAC, hydronic, plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Professional Engineer license; ability to obtain licensure in additional states as needed.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit; MS 365 proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design, and delivery of HVAC, HVAC controls, chiller, boiler, hydronic, and piping systems.
• Serve as Project Manager or technical lead with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, coordination, and client communication.
• Provide hands-on engineering production, technical direction, and problem-solving across design and construction.
• Mentor and develop mechanical engineering staff through coaching and design guidance.
• Lead QA/QC reviews to ensure deliverables are coordinated, complete, and code-compliant.
• Act as Engineer of Record for appropriate projects and accept professional responsibility for designs.
