Job summary

UCLA’s Capital Programs Design and Construction unit seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and perform professional mechanical/HVAC engineering for campus projects. The role reports to the Director of Engineering Services and ensures code compliance, design review, and construction oversight for complex projects with seismic considerations.

The position requires a California PE license, strong leadership, and expertise in CAD/BIM tools, code compliance and multi-disciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

• Current California PE license is required.
• Experience supervising engineers and consultants on mechanical projects.
• Design knowledge for mechanical systems in educational/medical/institutional settings.
• Ability to translate directions into finished engineering documents.
• Strong reading of architectural/electrical/plumbing/structural plans.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Engineering in planning and supervising mechanical/HVAC work.
• Represent the Director in their absence and oversee project design and construction.
• Ensure budget and schedule integrity for university projects.
• Review and supervise mechanical design for seismic activity areas.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and prepare cost estimates.
