Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking a highly skilled, outgoing Mechanical Engineer with at least five years of experience to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. The successful candidate will design and deliver mechanical projects, collaborating with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes project delivery, technical design, and client coordination, with opportunities to grow within the mechanical group and contribute to the Downtown LA office’s long-term

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• FE/EIT required, PE preferred.
• Experience designing HVAC systems for building projects.
• Experience applying California codes and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience with construction documents and engineering calculations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for various building types.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selections, and system analysis.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
• Manage project tasks and deliverables while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, field investigations, and construction meetings.
• Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor requests during construction.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Assist with proposal development, scope preparation, and fee estimates.
• Support client development through project delivery and technical excellence.
• Coordinate with Coffman offices to balance workload and share expertise.
• Contribute to office growth initiatives and maintain positive relationships in the local A/E/C community.
