Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking an outgoing and self-motivated HVAC Mechanical Engineer with 3–7 years of experience to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. The successful candidate will support the design and delivery of mechanical engineering projects while working closely with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

This role focuses on project delivery, technical design, and client coordination while supporting the continued growth of our mechanical engineering

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• FE/EIT required.
• Familiarity with California Mechanical Code, California Plumbing Code, California Energy Code, and applicable ASHRAE standards.
• Experience preparing construction documents and engineering calculations using industry-standard software tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for a variety of building types.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selections, and system analysis.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
• Manage project tasks and deliverables while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, field investigations, and construction meetings.
• Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor requests during construction.
• Assist with proposal development, scope preparation, and fee estimates.
• Coordinate with other Coffman offices to balance workload and share technical expertise.
