Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking an outgoing and self-motivated HVAC Mechanical Engineer to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. The role leads mechanical design delivery, coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams on a range of building projects.

The successful candidate will manage projects from planning through construction, mentor junior engineers, and help grow Coffman's Southern California mechanical practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of U.S. professional experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• FE/EIT required, PE preferred.
• Experience designing HVAC systems for building projects.
• Familiarity with California Mechanical, Plumbing Codes and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience preparing construction documents and engineering calculations with industry software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of HVAC systems for various building types.
• Support plumbing and piping system design as needed.
• Serve as project manager and primary client contact for assigned projects.
• Develop project scopes, fee estimates, schedules, and work plans.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and coordination.
• Prepare and review calculations, reports, plans, specs, and construction documents.
• Review heating/cooling loads, equipment selections, and analyses.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architecture, structure, and other disciplines.
• Lead client and project coordination meetings, site visits, and field investigations.
