Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking an outgoing HVAC Mechanical Engineer with 3–7 years of experience to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. You will support mechanical design from planning through construction, collaborating with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams.

The role focuses on project delivery, technical design, and coordination across Coffman offices. California codes knowledge and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; FE/EIT required.
• Experience designing HVAC systems for building projects.
• Familiarity with California Mechanical Code, California Plumbing Code, California Energy Code, and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience preparing construction documents and engineering calculations with industry-standard tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for various building types.
• Prepare calculations, technical reports, plans, specs, and construction documents.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations and equipment selections.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architecture, structure, civil, electrical, and fire protection.
• Manage tasks, schedules, and budgets; participate in client meetings and site visits.
• Review submittals, RFIs, and contractor requests during construction.
• Assist with proposals, scopes, and fee estimates; share expertise across Coffman offices.
