Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, a leader in sustainable packaging, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer for beverage packaging systems in Smyrna, GA. You will design and improve high‑speed equipment, lead projects, and collaborate with product management, manufacturing, and service teams across North America.

The role requires a ABET‑accredited Mechanical Engineering degree and 10+ years of experience in complex mechanical design, with expertise in motion control and GD&T. Travel ~10–15% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 10+ years of engineering and machine design experience with high‑speed automated machinery.
• Experience designing complex mechanical systems and automated equipment.
• Strong knowledge of motion control, servos, sensors, pneumatics, and automation.
• Familiarity with DFM, DFA, ASME Y14.5 and GD&T principles.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects across cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and continuous improvement of high‑speed packaging machinery.
• Act as technical authority, establishing design standards and ensuring performance and reliability.
• Manage projects from concept through manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and sales to deliver solutions.
• Develop mechanical solutions to improve performance, safety, and cost.
• Review drawings, BOMs, specs, and documentation per standards.
• Provide hands‑on support during FAT, startup, and field service activities.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.
