Smurfit Westrock plc in Smyrna, GA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design and improvement of high-speed packaging machinery and customer-specific equipment across North America.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and drive projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring performance, reliability, and cost objectives while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of engineering and machine design experience with high-speed machinery.
• Strong knowledge of motion control, automation, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience CAD/PLM/ERP systems; Creo and Windchill familiarity.
• Willingness to travel 10–15%, including international travel.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and improve high-speed packaging machinery and customer-specific equipment.
• Lead complex engineering projects from concept through commissioning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet performance, quality, and cost targets.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Provide hands-on support during assembly, FAT, startup, and field service.
• Create and review engineering drawings, BOMs, specs, calculations.
