Job summary

Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support Active Learning Labs for undergraduate and some graduate courses.

You will lead course-related lab activities, mentor students, and ensure safe, efficient lab operations while coordinating with faculty and staff. The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, CAD/CAM tooling, and supervision of lab spaces, with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and project-based

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of three years of related work experience beyond college degree.
• An advanced degree, such as an MS in mechanical engineering, is a plus.
• Strong hands-on experience with CAM and rapid prototyping tools (3D printers, CNC mills, laser cutters).
• Competence in CAD/CAM methods and material selection.
• Ability to train students on safe use of power tools and fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide lab instruction and technical mentorship to students and staff.
• Lead development of course-based support resources and demonstrations.
• Support/lead hands-on workshops and activities.
• Set up, test, maintain and prepare lab equipment and tools.
• Assist with troubleshooting and debugging student work during lab experiments.
• Mentor capstone design projects and advise on professional development.
• Ensure lab safety trainings and compliance and develop safety guidelines.
