Job summary

Airspan Networks is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Plano, TX to design and develop mechanical systems for radio base stations supporting 5G, 4G/LTE, and GSM. You will drive innovative mechanical designs meeting performance, environmental, and manufacturing requirements.

You will work on scalable hardware portfolios with a focus on outdoor environments, thermals, and manufacturability, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable telecom equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and shipping commercial products.
• Experience with outdoor-rated telecommunications equipment is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks, with 2D drafting skills.
• Expertise in designing plastic, die-cast, extruded, and machined parts.
• Familiarity with PCBs and their mechanical integration.
• Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of thermal modeling, simulation, and testing for electronic equipment (ANSYS IcePak, Flotherm).
• Experience with outdoor environments meeting IP65 or similar ratings.
• Product safety certifications such as UL, CSA, CE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware development and detailed mechanical design within the mechanical domain.
• Define requirements and create conceptual layouts for product designs using 3D CAD tools.
• Develop detailed fabrication drawings aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
• Perform thermal analysis and simulations to optimize thermal performance.
• Assist in procurement and support manufacturing production activities.
• Drive Design for Manufacturability with tooling and process teams.
• Coordinate with hardware, supply chain, and project management to meet goals.
• Validate product performance using design and simulation tools.
• Conduct assembly-level tolerance analyses for fit and function.
• Assemble prototypes to verify mechanical fit, function, and tolerances.
• Design fixtures and enable rapid prototyping for development and testing.
• Create documentation and specs for prototyping, quoting, and production readiness.
