Job summary

Engtal in Sterling, VA seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead complex building systems design across data center, healthcare, and federal projects. You will guide design teams from concept through construction, mentor junior engineers, and partner with clients to deliver technically sound solutions.

The role requires a PE license and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with extensive experience in HVAC, load calculations, and BIM (Revit/AutoCAD).

Qualifications

Position Overview: Senior Mechanical Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead on complex mechanical building systems projects, guiding design teams from concept through construction. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with clients. The position also offers a clearly defined path to Associate for individuals looking to advance into leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering design on projects from concept through construction
  • Develop conceptual and preliminary mechanical designs, including redline layouts for estimating
  • Perform and oversee HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
  • Support client meetings, project pursuits, and technical presentations
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers while providing technical guidance across project teamsConduct site visits, field investigations, and resolve construction-phase design issues
  • Stay current on industry codes, technologies, and mission-critical design trends
Qualifications
