Job summary

Plan B Climatech is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Greater Boston area. You will own complex mechanical design for mission critical and healthcare projects, mentor junior engineers, and lead client-facing delivery from concept through construction administration.

You will coordinate with multi-discipline teams, perform HVAC design, load calculations, and energy modeling, and ensure code compliance including NFPA/ASHRAE standards. Boston-area on-site work is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in MEP/building systems.
• Direct project experience in mission critical and healthcare facilities.
• Massachusetts PE license or ability to obtain reciprocity.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC design, energy modeling, and redundancy for critical facilities.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and load calculation software.

Responsibilities

Working set-up: Hybrid 3 days in office, 2 days at home

About the Opportunity

Our client, a growing MEP engineering firm serving the Greater Boston market, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex mechanical design work across mission critical (data center), life science and healthcare projects, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in client-facing project delivery.

What You'll Do

You will lead mechanical design efforts on mission critical and healthcare projects from concept through construction administration, including HVAC system design, load calculations, equipment selection, and energy modeling. You\'ll coordinate closely with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural teams to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions, while also managing client relationships and presenting design recommendations directly to owners, architects, and contractors. Reviewing and stamping construction documents, specifications, and calculations will fall under your scope, along with mentoring junior and mid-level engineers on technical standards and best practices. You\'ll also stay current on codes relevant to critical facilities and healthcare environments, including NFPA 99, NFPA 70, ASHRAE 170, and local Massachusetts amendments.

What We\'re Looking For

• Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field)
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience within an MEP or building systems consulting environment
• Direct project experience in mission critical (data center) and/or healthcare facility design
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain reciprocity
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC system design, energy modeling, and redundancy/resiliency requirements typical of critical facilities
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and load calculation software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards: ASHRAE, NFPA 99/70, IMC, and Massachusetts state building code
• Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Based in or willing to work on-site in the Boston area
