Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, evaluate, and manage complex government facility systems in Hawaii. You will coordinate with DoD stakeholders to ensure compliance, reliability, and mission readiness across HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utilities.

The role requires 10+ years of relevant experience, PE preferred, and proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and BIM tools. A Secret clearance to start is required, with up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years in mechanical/facilities engineering for government or DoD programs.
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, fuel, fire protection, and utility systems.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage schedules/budgets.
  • ABET-accredited mechanical engineering degree preferred; PE license desirable.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SolidWorks, and BIM tools.

Job description

  • Plan, design, and evaluate mechanical systems supporting Government facilities and infrastructure projects
  • Develop engineering designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, and cost estimates for construction, renovation, sustainment, and modernization projects
  • Assess HVAC, plumbing, fuel distribution, fire protection, compressed air, and other mechanical infrastructure
  • Conduct facility inspections, condition assessments, engineering surveys, and technical evaluations
  • Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, lifecycle analyses, and technical recommendations
  • Review construction drawings, contractor submittals, and engineering documentation for technical accuracy and compliance
  • Support construction management, field inspections, commissioning, acceptance testing, and quality assurance
  • Coordinate with Government personnel, subcontractors, utility providers, and host nation agencies
  • Ensure designs comply with UFC, UFGS, IMC, IPC, NFPA, OSHA, and environmental regulations
  • Identify deficiencies and recommend modernization strategies to improve reliability, efficiency, and mission readiness
  • Support contingency engineering, emergency infrastructure restoration, and rapid facility assessments
  • Maintain engineering documentation, as-built drawings, equipment records, and configuration management
  • Develop preventive maintenance recommendations and lifecycle sustainment strategies
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and field personnel
  • Promote engineering best practices, innovation, safety, and continuous process improvement
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, facilities engineering, infrastructure design, construction management, or mechanical systems supporting Government, Department of Defense, or commercial infrastructure programs
  • Experience designing, evaluating, or maintaining HVAC, plumbing, fuel, fire protection, utility, or industrial mechanical systems
  • Experience supporting facility sustainment, modernization, construction, or infrastructure development projects
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, specifications, technical reports, and construction documentation
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts while supporting project schedules, budgets, and operational requirements
  • Ability to present engineering recommendations and technical briefings to Government and program leadership
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (desired)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable
  • Experience supporting overseas military installations, contingency engineering, expeditionary facilities, or infrastructure modernization projects
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SolidWorks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, ArcGIS, and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), ASHRAE standards, International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), NFPA standards, and applicable energy and environmental regulations
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CEM, CQM, LEED AP, or equivalent engineering and construction certifications are preferred
  • Secret clearance required to start
