Job summary

Canvas Inc. in Florida is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop facility mechanical systems for military infrastructure, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and building automation.

You will produce designs, scopes of work, specifications, and cost estimates for complex projects. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, assess energy efficiency, review submittals for compliance with IMC, UFC, and DoD standards, and support operations with troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proven experience in design, construction, or maintenance of facility mechanical/HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with IMC, ASHRAE standards, and UFC design standards.
  • Proficiency with engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit) and load calculation tools (Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
  • PE license or EIT certification is highly desirable.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.

  • Collaborate with electrical, civil, architectural engineers, and energy management specialists to deliver multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Project Development: Develop comprehensive engineering designs, scopes of work, specifications, and cost estimates for facility mechanical systems, including advanced HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, fire suppression, and building automation control systems.
  • Infrastructure Assessment: Conduct site investigations and energy audits to evaluate existing mechanical systems, boilers, chillers, and distribution piping. Identify deficiencies, calculate thermal loads, and recommend lifecycle upgrades or energy-efficient modernization strategies.
  • Contract & Construction Oversight: Review technical submittals, equipment shop drawings, and design plans submitted by external construction contractors. Ensure all proposed work complies with the International Mechanical Code (IMC), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and Department of the Air Force standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Investigate complex mechanical failures, system imbalances, and climate control issues across base infrastructure. Provide actionable engineering recommendations, troubleshooting support, and technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, civil, and architectural engineers, as well as energy management specialists, to ensure the cohesive, timely, and successful execution of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proven experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of commercial, industrial, or military facility mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), ASHRAE standards, and familiarity with military Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) design standards.
  • Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and mechanical load calculation tools (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is highly desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required security clearance.
