Job summary

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer at Teledyne FLIR Defense in Utah designs lightweight, high-performance systems for UAS and defense applications. You will own complex assemblies from concept to production, use parametric CAD, FEA, prototyping, and ensure robust documentation and BOM control.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to drive design excellence, manufacturability, and a smooth transition to sustained production with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 6+ years of mechanical design experience with weight and size sensitive assemblies.
• Strong CAD skills with robust parametric modeling in top-down design.
• Experience with PDM/configuration control.
• Experience with battery, motor, or UAV propulsion systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own system and subsystem designs and integrate team members' work.
• Manage large assemblies in CAD and PLM, ensuring BOM and drawings alignment.
• Optimize for aerodynamic profiles and efficiencies.
• Apply FEA, prototyping, and testing to deliver durable, manufacturable designs.
• Develop tests to validate design across operational environments.
• Deliver DFMA-friendly designs with manufacturing in mind.
• Collaborate with leaders and teams, driving design tasks to completion.
• Coordinate with suppliers during development and production.
• Create and control design data from concept to sustainment; support change processes.
