Job summary

FLIR Systems, Inc. in Utah is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer who will lead the mechanical design of lightweight, high‑performance systems for UAVs and drones.

You will own complex assemblies, drive CAD modeling, BOMs, and interface control while coordinating with suppliers and production. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of experience in mechanical design, strong SolidWorks skills, and familiarity with FEA and PLM/PDM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 6+ years of mechanical design experience with weight- and size-sensitive assemblies.
• Strong CAD skills and experience with top-down parametric modeling.
• SolidWorks expertise for 3D modeling, drawings, and simulations.
• Experience with PLM/PDM and configuration control practices.
• Experience with battery, motor, or UAV propulsion systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of lightweight, high-performance systems and subsystems from concept to production.
• Manage large part count assemblies in CAD/PLM and document control via BOMs and drawings.
• Apply FEA, prototyping, and testing to ensure durability and manufacturability.
• Develop tests to validate designs across operational envelopes and environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and production to ensure smooth transition to manufacturing.
