Job summary

ZettaJoule, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for HTGR systems.

You will work at the intersection of design engineering, materials, and manufacturing to deliver buildable components and maintain CAD data and interfaces across systems. You will collaborate with stress analysts, materials, and systems engineering to integrate analysis results, conduct reviews, and support fabrication planning.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent design experience considered.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical designer or design engineer experience.
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion) with drawing modules.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
• Experience designing heavy industrial components (pressure-retaining equipment, heat exchangers, piping).
• Experience with a PDM/PLM system and configuration-controlled design.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings for HTGR primary components.
• Apply GD&T and drafting standards for complete drawing packages.
• Design components for high-temperature service including thermal expansion and clearances.
• Incorporate analysis results from stress/materials/thermal hydraulics into CAD designs.
• Manage large assemblies, interfaces, and constructability reviews.
• Prepare CAD data for simulations (FEA/CFD) and define BOMs in a PDM/PLM environment.
• Support design reviews, change control, and design baseline documentation.
• Collaborate with vendors to resolve manufacturability questions and review shop drawings.
