Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Designer to join our hybrid team in Metairie, LA. You will develop 3D plant layout models, produce detailed drawings, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineers across the project lifecycle.

The role requires extensive experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports, along with strong collaboration skills to interface with other design teams. Field walkdowns may be involved, and mentoring junior staff is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent technical experience with 1+ years drafting coursework.
• 10+ years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements, piping systems and supports.
• Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
• Experience reviewing mechanical equipment drawings and coordinating deliverables.
• Ability to interface with engineering/design teams in power plant design.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping composites, pipe supports, and equipment location drawings.
• Lead mechanical design team in coordinating detailed design phases for an integrated model.
• Coordinate and guide designers and project team members to ensure timely completion of designs.
• Plan and execute design deliverables; may conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
