Stewart & Stevenson in Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to create and maintain 3D models of standard equipment parts and assemblies. You will prepare layouts and drawings of assemblies, installations, and systems, and revise documentation as needed.

The role requires strong CAD skills in SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor, familiarity with PDM/Vault, and ability to read blueprints and schematics. Effective communication and teamwork are essential in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 5–7 years related experience; degrees preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • SolidWorks and Inventor experience with PDM/Vault.
  • Experience with ERP systems, especially Oracle E-Business Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize design and drafting software to develop layouts of new design concepts and draw components and assemblies in 3D under direction.
  • Create standard 2D component drawings, fabrication drawings, assemblies, and schematics from models or 2D drawings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Modify 3D models and 2D drawings and issue ECOs per company standards.
  • Interface with shop staff to address production issues and resolve them efficiently.

Overview

Stewart & Stevenson is Now Hiring a Senior Mechanical Designer at 10750 Telge Road Houston, TX 77095.

Responsible for creating and maintaining three dimensional models of standard manufactured equipment parts and assemblies in accordance with defined standards. Prepare layouts and drawings of assemblies, installations, and systems. Make standard corrections and revisions to documentation, as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize design and drafting software to develop layouts of new design concepts and drawcomponents and assembliesin three dimensional solids under close direction of an Engineer.
  • Create standard two-dimensional component drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, schematics (hydraulic, pneumatics, electrical) from three dimensional models or two dimensional drawings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Modify standard three-dimensional models and two-dimensional drawings and create Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) in accordance with company standards.
  • Interface with shop staff and other personnel to examine production issues and find resolutions effectively and efficiently.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with SolidWorks/PDM and Autodesk Inventor/Vault Professional required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with major ERP business systems required, Oracle E-Business Suite preferred.
  • SolidWorks Macros experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with GD&T preferred.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five to seven years related experience required. Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • SolidWorks training certificates a plus.
