Job summary

Atec, Inc is seeking a CAD Drafter to prepare clear and detailed drawings from sketches, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company standards. You will revise models per ECN/SCN procedures and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams.

You will read BOMs and schematics and use CAD tools (SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, OrCAD, DraftSite) to produce precise documentation. Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree or 3–8 years related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience.
• Experience in SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, OrCAD and/or DraftSite preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans, complex assembly drawings, and detail drawings from sketches or notes.
• Revise and update model and drawing files per engineering change procedures.
• Create final drawings using CAD software, check dimensions and part relations.
• Read and interpret BOMs and schematics (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic).
• Adhere to ASME/ANSI/MIL-STD and internal drawing standards (Atec).
• Support cross-functional teams and participate in continuous improvement.

Job description

SUMMARY

Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans, complex assembly drawings, and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes, in conjunction with other engineering staff. Revise and update model and drawing files per engineering change procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

May mentor, provide guidance, and check peer work

Make and review final drawings of proposed designs using computer-aided design equipment and software, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.

Must be familiar with and adhere to various ASME, ANSI, Mil-Std, and Atec internal drawing standards.

May be involved in reviewing, revising, updating, and training company standards and procedures.

Process drawing changes based on ECN’s, SCN’s, and/or other change notice procedures.

Be able to read and understand BOM (Bill of Materials); provide review/clarification as required.

Be able to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, and P&IDs.

Utilize knowledge of various machine tools, engineering practices, trade practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings in a variety of engineering, architectural, environmental, electrical, and mechanical fields.

Support company efforts, working with Production, Technical Publication, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Purchasing groups as required to fulfill needs and activities.

Draw charts for representation of statistical data, as required.

Model and create documentation of finished designs from sketches, notes, calculations, and/or other forms of input, working closely with subject matter experts.

Use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) equipment and software.

Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

ISO9000 SPECIFIC DUTIES

Be familiar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.

Understand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.

Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.

Participate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.

Participate in ISO9000 training as required.

Cooperate with Auditors.

Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate degree (AA) from two-year college or technical school; or 3-8 years related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience.

Experience in SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, OrCAD, and/or DraftSite preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

SolidWorks Professional certification (CSWP) encouraged; options include, but are not limited to,

Mechanical Design, Model-based Design, API, Sheetmetal, Weldments, Surfacing, Drawing Tools, Mold Making, CAM, Simulation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Employee must have good eyesight, by lenses if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Extended work hours and/or travel may occasionally be required.
