Job summary

American Superconductor seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in New Milford, CT to lead the mechanical design of transformers and power equipment for custom-engineered projects. You will develop 3D models, layouts, and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, ensuring designs meet specifications and manufacturing requirements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years in mechanical design, preferably in transformer-related environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive mechanical design experience in transformers or related equipment.
Experience working in engineered-to-order, project-based environments is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop mechanical designs for custom transformer and power equipment projects based on customer specifications.
Create and maintain 3D models, detailed drawings, layouts, and BOMs for procurement and manufacturing.
Collaborate with Electrical and Project Engineering to ensure mechanical designs meet electrical, thermal, insulation and customer requirements.
Perform mechanical design calculations and engineering evaluations to validate designs and component selections.
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and safety requirements, maintaining documentation for release and control.
Provide technical leadership on projects and support manufacturing with troubleshooting and design changes.
