Job summary

AMSC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of transformers and related power equipment for custom-engineered customer projects. You will develop tank, core, and clamping assemblies, enclosures, piping, and other components using Inventor and AutoCAD.

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will ensure designs meet customer specs, industry standards, manufacturing requirements, and project objectives, collaborating closely with Electrical and Project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive mechanical design experience in transformers or heavy electrical equipment.
• Experience in engineered-to-order, project-based or highly customized environments.
• Experience with mechanical design of transformer tanks, core/clamping assemblies, or cooling/piping systems.
• Strong ability to interpret customer specs and translate into practical mechanical designs.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for custom transformer and power equipment projects meeting customer specs and design criteria.
• Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, layouts, and schematics for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with Electrical and Project Engineering to ensure mechanical designs meet all requirements.
• Perform mechanical design calculations and evaluations as needed.
