Job summary

DSJ Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of transformers and related power equipment on engineered-to-order projects. You will translate customer specs into practical mechanical solutions, designing tanks, enclosures, cooling systems, and related components.

You will create 3D models and drawings, maintain BOMs, and collaborate with electrical and project engineering to meet requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive mechanical design experience.
• Experience with transformers, electrical power equipment, or similar engineered products.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
• Experience interpreting complex customer specifications.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD, with Autodesk Inventor strongly preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD or similar 2D drafting software.
• Strong understanding of detailed drawings, equipment layouts, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Ability to support multiple customized projects with competing schedules and requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for custom transformer and electrical power equipment projects.
• Translate customer specifications into practical mechanical designs.
• Design transformer tanks, structural components, core and clamping assemblies, winding supports, bus systems, enclosures, piping, and cooling systems.
• Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, layouts, installation drawings, and technical documentation.
• Develop and maintain project BOMs and engineering documentation.
• Collaborate with Electrical and Project Engineering on electrical, thermal, insulation, dimensional, and mechanical requirements.
• Perform mechanical calculations and engineering evaluations to validate designs.
• Design for manufacturability, assembly, accessibility, structural integrity, and serviceability.
• Provide hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and troubleshoot project-specific design challenges.
• Manage engineering changes and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Interface with customers and suppliers on technical requirements and design changes.
• Provide technical direction to designers and engineers when assigned as project lead.
