Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead remote handling design for SNS systems, including PIE support and spent component disposal. You will oversee fabrication, testing, and maintenance activities, while guiding junior staff and ensuring adherence to ESH&Q requirements.

The role requires leadership in design reviews, experience with Creo CAD, and familiarity with remote handling operations in a nuclear environment.

Qualifications

BS in mechanical engineering or related field; 8+ years of relevant design experience.
Experience leading mechanical design and analysis for complex systems (mechanics, materials, fluid dynamics, stress).
Working knowledge of CAD solid modeling.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical engineering design for remote handling from concept to detailed design using Creo.
Lead fabrication, commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for remote handling tools/systems.
Plan and manage maintenance and component replacement activities with estimates and schedules.
Guide junior staff on tooling development and mockup testing; present at design reviews.
Comply with ORNL environment, safety, health, and quality requirements.
