Aalo Atomics in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with deep ASME BPVC Section III expertise to lead reactor vessel and pressure‑boundary design for our sodium‑cooled, graphite‑moderated system.

You will develop code‑compliant designs, perform calculations, create design reports, and align with manufacturing, quality, licensing, and QA teams while supporting ASME stamp certification efforts and fabrication readiness. On‑site work required in Austin or Idaho Falls.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in mechanical design with pressure vessels or nuclear systems.
• Expert knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III including NB, NC, ND, NF.
• Experience applying code rules for safety class and seismic criteria.
• Experience performing or reviewing Section III calculations (stress, fatigue, load combos).
• Experience designing vessels, shells, heads, nozzles, or penetrations.
• Strong understanding of pressure‑vessel mechanics, fatigue, buckling, thermal stress.
• Ability to drive ambiguous technical work to documented decisions.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and FEA tools.
• On-site work in Austin, TX or Idaho Falls, ID.

Aufgaben

• Lead mechanical design and ASME BPVC Section III compliance for reactor vessels and pressure boundaries.
• Perform and own Section III code calculations for pressure, thermal, fatigue, buckling, seismic loads.
• Classify components per NCA/NB/NC/ND requirements and establish design framework.
• Apply Section III rules to pressure vessels, piping, supports, and containment structures.
• Develop design specifications, reports, and overpressure protection reports per Section III.
• Evaluate elevated‑temperature design considerations like creep and creep‑fatigue.
