Job summary

Aalo Atomics seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with deep ASME BPVC Section III expertise to lead reactor vessel and boundary‑system design for a sodium‑cooled, graphite‑moderated reactor.

This hands‑on role requires an independent engineer capable of delivering code‑compliant designs, analyses, and documentation while collaborating with manufacturing, materials, quality, and licensing teams. On‑site work in Austin, TX or Idaho Falls, ID is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience with pressure vessels or nuclear systems.
• Expert knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III and its application to pressure-boundary design.
• Experience with code classifications (safety class, seismic category, quality group).
• Experience performing or reviewing Section III code calculations, including stress analysis and fatigue.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and ASME BPVC Section III compliance for reactor vessels and boundary components.
• Perform and own Section III code calculations (stress, fatigue, buckling, seismic).
• Classify components per NCA/NB/NC/ND requirements and establish design framework.
• Apply Section III rules to vessels, piping, supports, and containment structures.
• Develop Design Specifications, Reports, and Overpressure Protection Reports.
• Evaluate elevated-temperature design, including creep-related considerations.
