Job summary

Northrop Grumman in San Diego, CA, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer – Level 4 to join the MEP Team onsite. You will design composite components, assemblies, and tooling, collaborating with Manufacturing, Test, and other engineering groups to ensure successful delivery of hardware. The role requires extensive CAD experience, aerospace knowledge, and the ability to obtain a U.S.

Government clearance. You will participate in internal and external reviews and help advance manufacturing and test

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years in structural design, or Masters with 6+ years in structural design.
• Aerospace experience with product definition and design and understanding of SOWs and ICDs.
• Knowledge of aerospace materials, bonding and fastening methods.
• Ability to design complex multi-piece tool assemblies for manufacturing and testing.
• Experience with CAD and PLM systems such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Proficiency in drawing generation with GD&T and DFMA principles.
• U.S. Government clearance ability.

Responsibilities

• Design complex assemblies including high strength composite laminates and metal interfaces.
• Create, prototype, and analyze tools and fixtures for manufacturing and testing.
• Develop components using CAD modeling, hand calculations, and analysis tools.
• Produce 3D designs and 2D drawings for manufacturing.
• Present at design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) and prepare media for reviews.
• Support manufacturing and test of fixtures and hardware.
• Assist in manufacturing/test plans and procurement of flight hardware.
• Manage multiple priorities to align with program goals.
