Job summary

McKenney’s, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of commercial and industrial HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems, interfacing with clients to define scope and perform feasibility and load calculations.

You will guide the design process with existing building and new construction teams, perform energy simulations, select equipment, and ensure compliance with codes, delivering value-driven solutions and growth for turnkey design/build offerings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
• Registered Professional Engineer.
• 7+ years of experience in the commercial/industrial HVAC field.
• 7+ years of experience in design and development of mechanical and plumbing layouts or project management.

Responsibilities

• Develop, negotiate, and maintain engineering scope for projects.
• Coordinate with operations to align budgets with engineering scope.
• Perform load calculations using Trane Trace 700, Trace 3D Plus.
• Analyze life-cycle costs to compare system options.
• Ensure designs meet codes and standards.
• Coordinate mechanical requirements with architects and other engineers.
• Prepare specifications and sequences of operation.
• Engage with clients and design teams to meet commitments.
• Develop HVAC and plumbing documents (duct sizing, routing, and piping).
• Conduct job-site inspections and prepare field reports.
• Provide input to Revit designers and mechanical engineers.
