Job summary

Newell Brands is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead electromechanical product development for durable consumer goods. Senior individual contributor with broad influence, collaborating across Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain. Travel may be required.

You will drive platform architecture, validate specifications, and oversee design from concept to production, ensuring performance, cost, and quality targets are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years of product-development experience with durable-consumer-goods launches.
• Expert-level 3D CAD modeling; Creo experience preferred.
• Deep knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with electronics, motors, sensors, wiring, and electromechanical systems.
• Strong prototyping, design-validation, and test-development skills.
• Experience with IP disclosures, patents, and IP counsel collaboration.
• Experience leading complex projects with domestic and global suppliers.
• Strong knowledge of PLM/PDM systems, BOMs, ECO/ECN workflows, and production docs.
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Champion engineering execution for NPD projects from conception through production launch.
• Influence program margins, cost, revenue, schedule, quality, and financial health.
• Validate success requirements and influence budget priorities.
• Review proposals, define technical specs, and develop timing with senior PMs.
• Recommend architecture and design approach for an entire platform.
• Develop engineered products autonomously or as lead engineer.
• Scout and implement new technologies in electromechanical power transmission.
• Apply knowledge of specs, materials, processes, cost, sustainability, and regulatory landscape.
• Create and review 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and design-change docs.
• Lead prototyping, design validation, risk assessment, and root-cause analysis.
• Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing tech; apply DFM/DFA principles.
• Identify invention submissions to IP counsel.
