Job summary

QuantumScape is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the mechanical design of advanced automation equipment from concept through production readiness. The role requires hands-on experience with mechanism and hardware design, 3D CAD, and collaboration with systems, controls, electrical, process, and EHS teams.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience (or a Bachelor’s with 5+ years), strong GD&T expertise, and familiarity with machining

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with typically 3+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s with 5+ years of experience; Ph.D. with no experience.
• Hands-on expertise in mechanism, hardware, and automation equipment design.
• Experience with machining, additive manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Proficient in production-ready 3D CAD models and assemblies.
• Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and applying it to detailed drawings.
• Ability to apply material strength, machine design theory, and physics-based reasoning to sizing components.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of first-of-a-kind automation equipment.
• Own end-to-end mechanical design scope from concept to handoff to manufacturing.
• Drive prototyping, validation, and design optimization for volume production.
• Define mechanical architecture and interfaces, considering DFM/DFA, reliability, and safety.
• Mentor engineers and help shape mechanical design standards across HAM.
