Job summary

QuantumScape Battery, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the mechanical design of custom automation equipment from concept through production.

You will work across systems, controls, electrical, process, and EHS to deliver robust, scalable tools for next‑gen solid‑state battery production. You will mentor engineers, define mechanical architecture, and ensure designs are manufacturable and safe in a high‑ambiguity environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Bachelor’s with 5+ years in mechanical engineering.
• Hands-on experience with automation equipment design.
• Experience with machining, additive manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Proficient in SolidWorks, Inventor, or CATIA.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and design for reliability.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-functional teams.
• Willing to travel ~5% domestic and 5% international.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of first‑of‑a‑kind automation equipment end‑to‑end.
• Own design scope from concept through detailed design, build, qualification, and handoff to manufacturing.
• Drive prototyping, validation, and production‑ready designs for volume manufacturing.
• Define mechanical architecture and interfaces with DFM/DFA, safety, and maintainability in mind.
• Collaborate with systems, controls, electrical, process, manufacturing, and EHS teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers across HAM.
