Job description

Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $83,250 - $122,100. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline and is based on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

What you’ll do:

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, responsible for research, design, development, testing, and certification activities, including:

1. Coordinate and execute product design activities within project cost and schedule constraints.
2. Develop conceptual designs into mature product solutions.
3. Manage technical risks through identification, prioritization, and data-driven design changes.
4. Develop engineering standards and design guides for continuous improvement.
5. Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles, managing Critical to Quality requirements, understanding manufacturing variations, and designing for manufacturing and assembly.
6. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, engineers, and manufacturing teams, to develop systems and products.
7. Coach junior engineers within the domain.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in system, product design, development, or problem resolution.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Must comply with ITAR regulations; U.S. persons only.
• Reside within 75 miles of Eaton's Orchard Park, NY facility; relocation is not provided.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification.

Position Criteria:

• Technical leadership in cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work autonomously with oversight.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, GD&T, and engineering principles like aerospace standards, DFSS, failure investigations, valve design, stress analysis, control systems, thermodynamics, etc.
