Job summary

Lumentum is seeking a Mechanical Component Engineer to manage the selection, qualification, lifecycle, and reliability of mechanical components for optical, telecom, and electronic products.

You will collaborate with Mechanical Design, R&D, Supplier Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure that design, performance, quality, and long-term availability meet criteria across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 5+ years in mechanical component engineering or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of machining, stamping, molding, casting, extrusion, plating, and assembly.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Engineering and Supplier Quality to drive manufacturability into design.
• Own Component Engineering activities: requirements, selection, qualification, lifecycle, reliability.
• Collaborate to define component specs, drawings, CTQs, tolerances, acceptance criteria.
• Lead qualification of new and alternate mechanical components (dimensional, material, environmental).
• Partner with Supply Chain on alternate-source development and risk assessment.
• Assess performance, materials, processes, tolerance stack-ups, and reliability risks.
• Evaluate PCNs, EOLs, and engineering changes for impact.
• Lead problem-solving and failure analysis for component-related issues.
