Job summary

Lumentum is seeking an Electronics Component Engineer to lead selection, qualification, and lifecycle oversight of electronic components for its products. You will collaborate with R&D, Supplier Quality, Procurement, and Manufacturing to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance across long‑life programs.

The role requires deep knowledge of electronic components and industry standards, with a focus on data-driven decisions, supplier collaboration, and rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Materials Engineering, or related field.
• Five+ years of experience with electronic components, component engineering, supplier quality, hardware engineering, or electronics manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, ferrite beads, thermistors).
• Diodes, MOSFETs, analog and digital ICs; microcontrollers, processors, FPGAs, memory, power-management devices.
• Experience interpreting datasheets, drawings, specifications, app notes, and qualification reports.
• Experience with component qualification and reliability testing.
• Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, AEC-Q, ASTM, IPC, RoHS, REACH, MSL requirements.
• Experience reviewing PCNs, EOL notices, datasheet changes, and supplier actions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to communicate with suppliers, design engineers, procurement, manufacturing, and management.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Sourcing for manufacturable, reliable designs.
• Define and maintain component requirements, specs, qualification standards, and approved vendor lists.
• Provide component-selection guidance during NPI and design activities for reliability and lifecycle.
• Review BOMs for obsolescence and supply continuity; qualify alternates.
• Review PCNs, EOL notices, and related documentation.
• Maintain accurate component data: part numbers, lifecycle, origin, RoHS/REACH, approved sources.
• Assess supplier reliability, FIT/MTBF, field data; support failure analysis and CAPAs.
• Participate in supplier audits, technical reviews, and change-management.
• Establish controls to prevent counterfeit/broker-sourced components.
• Monitor manufacturers, locations, process changes, capacity, and geopolitical risks.
