Job summary

City of Albuquerque is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform complex maintenance and repair of mechanical engines and diesel systems, including diagnostic work on electronic fuel and computer-controlled systems. The role involves preventive maintenance, record-keeping, and potential emergency road calls.

The position may require welding/fabrication, operation of shop machinery, and coordination of maintenance staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with two years of automotive training.
• Three years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair of various vehicles and equipment.
• Possession of ASE certifications preferred.
• Brake repair experience preferred.
• Possession of a valid NM Driver's License; ability to obtain by date of hire.
• City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months from date of hire.
• New Mexico CDL Class A or B with a Passenger endorsement within six months from date of hire.
• AC recovery and CNG fuel certification within six months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and difficult maintenance and repair work on mechanical engines and equipment, including diesel systems.
• Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects in vehicles and equipment.
• Perform diagnostic activities for electronic fuel systems and computer-controlled systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics and hydrostatic systems.
• Operate shop machinery such as lathes, presses, grinders, and blasters.
• Maintain and update records of preventive maintenance; input data into the computer; prepare maintenance reports.
• May drive and service City vehicles and heavy equipment; may perform emergency road calls.
• May lead and coordinate maintenance staff.
