Job summary

Apex Space, Inc. is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer to lead metallic materials and associated manufacturing processes used on spacecraft, propulsion systems, and structural hardware.

You will define requirements, run analyses, and build a materials database while qualifying flight hardware as volume scales. Responsibilities include material selection, process specifications, supplier qualification, and failure analysis support across design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, physics, aerospace, or related engineering.
• Strong foundation in materials science and engineering principles.
• Experience with aerospace metallics and material processing is required.

Responsibilities

• Own material selection, qualification, process requirements, design guidance, supplier controls, and technical disposition for typical Aerospace metallics.
• Establish and own internal materials and process specifications covering procurement, heat treatment, welding, brazing, soldering, machining and surface finishing.
• Develop and maintain an Approved Metallic Materials and Processes List with alloys, tempers, specs, suppliers, and status.
• Support engineering requirements for parts, materials, and manufacturing technologies in line with contractual obligations.
• Assist in supplier qualification, respond to inquiries, and escalate complex issues to senior management.
• Perform analyses to characterize performance and determine causes of failures; Recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate lab activities (metallography, hardness, tensile, NDT/NDI) and compile data for interpretation.
• Use project management practices to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
• Create and revise material/process specifications, work instructions, and test plans.
• Investigate non-conformances and supplier deviations; document corrective actions.
