Job summary

RTX is seeking a chemical/materials engineer in Andover, MA to perform material testing supporting development, design and failure analysis across adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites and metals. The role requires rigorous analysis, careful documentation, and collaboration with design and supplier teams.

You will conduct conformance testing, develop material properties, and lead investigations on material failures while coordinating multiple tasks in a multi-disciplined team environment.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
• Experience in Thermal Analysis and Characterization Techniques (i.e. TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, and CTE)
• Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (i.e. FTIR, GCMS, IC, and rheology)

Responsibilities

• Evaluate materials based on conformance to specifications and performance requirements
• Develop and/or validate appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products
• Provide resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
• Conduct hands on testing of materials using a variety of laboratory techniques
• Follow standard written protocols, as well as developing and fabricating unique test plans and test setups
• Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
• Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
• Engage with suppliers
