Job summary

RTX is seeking a Materials Engineer in Andover, MA to support a major Packaging and Handling assessment. The role will evolve to maintain P&H requirements, test incoming materials, review COAs, and verify compliance with specifications.

The position requires a STEM degree, hands-on lab experience, and the ability to obtain a US security clearance. Onsite work and collaboration with engineers are essential to success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in STEM and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Hands-on wet laboratory procedures and safe handling of chemicals.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate drawings and specifications of incoming parts to determine appropriate packaging and handling requirements based on material characteristics.
• Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage, environmental sensitivities, and manufacturing considerations.
• Review material documentation, specifications, and technical data sheets; develop recommendations based on engineering judgment.
• Clearly document findings and support integration of packaging/handling requirements into formal coding and standards.
• Follow established protocols and contribute to the development of new test plans, fixtures, and custom test setups.
• Conduct hands-on material testing using standard laboratory techniques and equipment to verify compliance with required specifications.
• Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and confirm adherence to material, chemical, and performance requirements.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between COAs and specifications in collaboration with suppliers, quality, and engineering teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation of incoming inspections, validation activities, and material test results.
