Divergent is seeking a Senior Materials & Process engineer to accelerate qualification of new manufacturing processes using first principles materials engineering and robust testing. You will lead metallurgical evaluation of L-PBF alloys and develop material qualification plans for design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of material qualifications experience and writing technical specifications.
  • 5+ years of experience with hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with aerospace/defense standards AMS, ASTM, and MIL specifications.
  • Expertise in additive manufacturing, metallurgy, heat treatment, or forgings/castings.
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Act as SME in L-PBF alloy metallurgical evaluation and microstructure characterization.
  • Define and execute material qualification test plans and material allowables.
  • Perform process development and qualification for onboarding of new materials and processes.
  • Write and maintain engineering specifications for materials, processes, and testing.
  • Support material-related quality monitoring tools and root cause investigations.
  • Collaborate in IPTs on development and delivery of new products.
  • Engage in component design to address customer material requirements with testing.

Purpose

As a Senior Materials & Process engineer, you will help accelerate the adoption and qualification of new manufacturing processes through first principles materials engineering and robust qualification testing.

The Role
  • Act as a subject matter expert(SME)inL-PBFalloy metallurgical evaluation andmicrostructurecharacterization, supportinghigh-priority improvements to printed material capabilityand consistency
  • Define and execute material qualification test plans and generate corresponding materialallowablesfor design
  • Perform process development and qualification for onboarding of newmaterials andmanufacturingprocesses
  • Write andmaintainengineering specifications for materials, processes, and testing
  • Support material related quality monitoring tools andlead / executeroot cause investigations
  • Collaborate, as M&Pfocal,in integrated product teams(IPTs)on development and delivery of new products
  • Engage incomponentdesign process to provide solutions to customer materialrequirements including deliveringcomponentspecific testing
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience executing material qualificationsand writing technical specifications
  • 5+ years of experience working with hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with,and ability to interpret,aerospace and defense requirements-including industry standards such as AMS, ASTM, and MIL specifications
  • Expertisein one of the following;additive manufacturing, metallurgy,heattreatmentor forgings/castings.
  • Ability to carry up to 25lbs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in materials science or engineering, or related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledgeofmaterialsmechanical behavior, such asfatigue and fracture– including experience with MMPDS fundamentals
  • Experience withNADCAP or other auditingmethodology
  • Familiarity with laboratory material tests such as metallographic evaluation, powder characterization,thermoanalyticaltesting, tensile testing, etc.
  • Proficient with 3D Modeling inTeamcenter / NX
  • Mix of office, laboratory, and industrial environment. May work with powders, chemicals, and machining equipment.

Pay Range

$141,380 - $194,390 USD
