Job summary

BorgWarner is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer / Metallurgist to lead metallurgical activities for the North American Engineering team. You will work closely with OEM customers, global engineering teams, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management to deliver material solutions meeting performance, durability, cost, and timing targets.

Ideal candidates have strong metallurgical expertise, experience with ferrous/non-ferrous metals, and a track record in failure analysis

Qualifications

• BS in metallurgical field required; MS preferred.
• 5+ years metallurgical development experience with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• 3+ years experience with castings and high-temperature materials.
• Strong customer-facing engineering experience and ability to lead technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct metallurgical testing and analysis on component failures; serve as technical expert on creep, fatigue, etc.
• Advise on material specifications, processes, and routings including casting processes and alloys.
• Develop and test metallurgical concepts for turbochargers, fans, and fan drives.
• Report issues and propose engineering solutions to resolve problems.
• Review and recommend metallurgical testing equipment and protocols.
• Manage vendor contracts for services and equipment.
• Support site strategic planning and budgeting for metallurgical testing.
• Represent site on company steering teams.
• Ensure compliance with BorgWarner quality, safety and environmental standards.
