Job summary

BorgWarner is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer / Metallurgist to join its North American Engineering team in Arden, NC. You will serve as the lead materials and metallurgical expert, working closely with OEM customers, global engineering teams, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management to deliver material solutions that balance performance, durability, cost, and timing.

The role requires a BS in metallurgy with 5+ years of metallurgical development experience, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in a metallurgical field is required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years metallurgical development experience with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with castings and high temperature materials.
• Strong customer-facing engineering experience with leadership in technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct metallurgical testing and analysis on component failures.
• Advise on material specifications, processes and routings including casting processes.
• Develop and test new designs and procedures for turbochargers, fans, and fan drives.
• Report metallurgical issues and propose solutions to engineering staff.
• Review and recommend new metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
• Travel for customer visits, supplier visits, and BorgWarner meetings as required.
