Job summary

BorgWarner is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer / Metallurgist to join our North American Engineering team in Arden, NC.

You will serve as the lead materials and metallurgical expert of the North American Engineering team, collaborating with OEM customers, global engineering teams, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management to deliver innovative material solutions that meet performance, durability, cost, and timing requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in metallurgical field required
• Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years metallurgical development experience with ferrous and non-ferrous metals
• Minimum 3 years experience with castings and high temperature materials
• Strong customer-facing engineering experience
• Knowledge of turbochargers, engine cooling systems, thermal management products
• Ability to conduct destructive and non-destructive testing and evaluation

Responsibilities

• Conduct metallurgical testing and analysis on component failures; act as technical expert on complex metallurgical testing and failure analysis
• Advise product engineering, purchasing and quality on material specifications, processes and routings including casting processes
• Develop and test new designs/processes for turbochargers, fans, and fan drives
• Report metallurgical or process issues and propose solutions to engineering staff
• Evaluate and recommend new metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Manage contracts with vendors for services and equipment
• May contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting for metallurgical testing
• May represent the site on company steering teams
