Job summary

Redbock - an NES Fircroft company in Minnesota is seeking a Materials Scientist/Engineer to support product development through laboratory testing, materials characterization, and failure analysis. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive technical solutions and review documentation to extract critical information for compliance with biocompatibility and hazard regulations.

Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering required; 2–10 years of relevant experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering (BS in MSE).
• 0–3 years medical/clinical experience or exposure (nice to have).
• Masters or polymer science background is a plus.

• Knowledge of materials and interactions with the body and environment and ability to correlate material properties with product performance to predict various failure modes
• Knowledge of international and domestic regulations associated with Materials of Concern, Biocompatibility and Hazardous Substances ((e.g. RoHS, EU MDR, California Prop. 65, ISO 10993)

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct laboratory testing, materials characterization, and failure analysis to support product development and issue resolution.

Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Material Science and Engineering, ideally in Polymer Science

Target Years of Experience: 2- 10 yrs

Duties:

• Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
• Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, nonmetallic, and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication, and assembly processes.
• Develops, analyzes, and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
• May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
